Welcome to Bounces !

This is the new home of Ben Rothenberg’s writing, reporting, insights and opinions on the never-dull world of professional tennis, continuing his work that you have likely read at The New York Times, Slate, or even just on Twitter.

Bounces began in October 2024 and has been going strong ever since, including on-site coverage of major tennis tournaments, exclusive interviews, features, and more. Thousands of tennis fans and supporters of independent journalism have already subscribed, at both paid and free levels, and I am super grateful for their support.

Thanks to that support, there has already been a broad range of reporting on Bounces in its first year, both serious and fun stuff. There’s been investigations of paid seat fillers at a tournament in Saudi Arabia, breakdowns of complex anti-doping cases, and interviews with figures ranging from Iga Swiatek’s coaching team to Carlos Alcaraz’s barber.

Why subscribe?

On average, free subscribers will get to read one post a week, available to read on the website here or in your inbox. And hopefully that one post will be pretty good!

Paid subscribers, though, get everything, and help keep the lights on here to keep even more reporting coming at Bounces in the future.

There is usually at least one paid post each week, and way more than that during major events in the tennis calendar. There are also comment threads, chats, Q&As, and all sorts of other stuff to help build something of a community in this space.

One of the coolest things about the online tennis community is being able to speak the common language of the sport we love with other members of this far-flung tribe, so I’m hopeful that this space can become a pretty neato, robust enclave of folks with this shared interest.

You can subscribe to get full access to the newsletter and website, so you’ll never miss an update and will have full access to the archives.

Looking forward to bouncing all around the sport and beyond with you folks!

-Ben
