Nice write up Ben. One suggestion. Someday you should also write a piece on how exactly draws are made. I had attended the 2011 Wimbledon draw ceremony but didn’t quite understand how names were taken out. It’s an academic story, but would be a good things to know.
Do a graphical video story, instead of a written story. Like we know that the top 2 seeds meet in the finals, and usually the No1 faces No3 and No.2 face the No4 in the semis. But how do players get drawn in their respective quarters of the draw, how many quarters of the draw are there, etc etc.
I really enjoyed the sound portrait on NCR. That was actually the first year that I started paying attention to tennis. I was in elementary school and very excited to tell my disinterested friends all about Ashe and King winning. My childhood hero, Borg, kicked off his reign at Wimbledon the next year, and I’ve been hooked on the sport ever since. Thanks for that walk down memory lane.
I almost fell over when Sabalenka drew Brastine. Your recent posts have been remarkably prescient, Ben!
I've been wondering about how the draws are handled and appreciate your insight. Looking forward to your Wimbledon coverage!

Good idea!

The 1975 audio diary on NCR was fantastic!
