NEW YORK — One of yesterday’s picks of matches to watch turned into the most discussed scene on Wednesday at the U.S. Open…but only after the match had ended.
After losing her second round match against Taylor Townsend, 25th-seeded Jelena Ostapenko waited at the net to confront Townsend. Their exchanged of words continued at the side of the court, into the press room, onto social media, and will surely ricochet around traditional and social media in the days to come.
“Hi, everybody!” Townsend cheerily said as she strolled into the press room, ready to continue standing her ground. “This is the type of day y’all live for.”
