Why Serena Should Not Play Doubles at Wimbledon

After again going dark after a painful loss in singles, the superstar wouldn't seem ready to return, based on her history.

WIMBLEDON, England — Bounces posts during majors, as readers know, end with a list of “Matches to Watch” for the next day’s play. But today, I want to focus on a highly-anticipated match on Wimbledon’s Saturday schedule that I don’t think should be watched, because it probably shouldn’t happen:

Serena Williams’ return to Wimbledon for her first-round women’s doubles match alongside her sister Venus.

It seems to have been largely forgotten, but the last time Serena tried to play at Wimbledon in a similar situation, it was an infamous and unmitigated disaster. It’s not worth risking that again.
