The Long Line to Enter the Hall of Fame
As Roger Federer gets into Newport, who is next up, and who is getting left out?
There was a deeply unsurprising headline on a press release out of Newport, Rhode Island this morning:
"Roger Federer to be Inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2026”
Federer, a 20-time major champion who ushered in what’s often seen as a golden generation of men’s tennis, was an obvious inclusion. What I found more interesting, though, was what wasn’t written: the other two nominees for the Class of 2026 in the recent player category, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Juan Martin del Potro, both failed to reach the 75 percent threshold for induction, leaving Federer alone in this headline.
