WIMBLEDON, England — Most recaps of the 2026 Wimbledon women’s singles final will focus, reasonably, on the second half of the second set, when the match turned from ho-hum to humdinger.

Linda Noskova, who had rolled since the beginning of the match with little resistance from Karolina Muchova, was up 6-2, 5-2, and had earned her first championship point just 68 minutes into the match.

You know what came next—and I’ll go into those excruciating moments in the detail they deserve—but I want to focus on what really decided this match after what could have been an all-time collapse.
