PARIS, France — I’m delighted today to bring Bounces subscribers interviews with two iconic iconoclasts of women’s tennis who have reunited once more at Roland Garros.

When I first talked to Marion Bartoli about Jelena Ostapenko a few years ago, Bartoli told me that their personalities “can’t be more opposite.”

“I'm calm and like stuff to be well-organized; she's completely the other way around,” Bartoli said of Ostapenko. “She lives her life as a thunderstorm.”

For the tempestuous Ostapenko, who was a force of nature during her big win here eight years ago, the hope is that lightning can strike twice. And with Bartoli in back her corner, it just might.

The rest of this article, with new interviews with both Ostapenko and Bartoli, is exclusive for paid Bounces subscribers, so it’s a great time to become one of them to read this and all the rest of Bounces coverage at the 2025 French Open and beyond! Merci beaucoup! -Ben
