Jannik Sinner Declines His Shot at History

By withdrawing from Montreal, Sinner ended his ATP 1000s sweep bid. That should startle the ATP.

Jannik Sinner will not be saying a Montréalais “Bonjour Hi” to further ATP history this year—at least, anyhow, not to the most remarkable achievement which he was closing in upon.

Sinner, who swept the first five ATP Masters 1000 events of the year—Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome—withdrew Friday from the sixth Masters 1000 event on the calendar: next month’s ATP 1000 Montreal tournament.
