After losing Sunday’s ATP 1000 Monte Carlo final in two topsy-turvy sets, Carlos Alcaraz instantly turned into Jannik Sinner’s hype man, and was ready to gush by the time the Italian reached the net for the handshake.

“Hard court, grass, clay court,” Alcaraz said as he pulled Sinner in close and listed the surfaces on which his rival has now won prestigious titles. “…Great, great, great. Great job, man. Great stuff, man. Congrats.”

Maybe Alcaraz was put into the mood to take inventory of Sinner the Winner because of the unique inscriptions around Court Rainier III, which list the locales of all nine ATP Masters 1000 events. Maybe Alcaraz had realized just how absurd what he and Sinner are doing has become: winning everything, everywhere, both exclusively and extremely efficiently.
