Beautiful tribute to someone who has touched your life in more ways than he probably understood. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him and read his work.
Ben, great thanks for your loving tribute to a colleague and mentor. Difficult not to worry about your late hours, relentless travel, money concerns! Keep safe and healthy -- veg & fish with those beers! Fondly, JD
He was a tremendous reporter, and a great guy to be alongside at any event - Olympics or tennis.
I remember once introducing him the concept of an embargo and watching his head explode: Howard being Howard, he acquiesced to my request of holding some innocuous Argentine's three lines on Cam Norrie for 24 hours. I will miss his fabulous line of questioning, his dedication to the craft, and his machine-gun swearing at his computer in the corner of the press room.
Thank you for the tribute, Ben. You knew him far better than I and it was lovely to hear more. We will all miss him.
Very moving, Ben. I’m glad you are with friends and colleagues who can share in tribute, commiseration, and comfort. And, of course, a common commitment to a shared passion - quite the dedication. Be well.
I hate reading this. I didn't realize Howard was so young -- he worked like a mega-mega-seasoned vet. Tennis and journalism will miss him. Thanks for writing what had to be a difficult piece, Ben.
Beautiful piece, Ben. I must admit that as someone who only covers tennis at the U.S. Open, my interactions with Howard were rarely pleasant; he always seemed to be in a sour mood, or aggravated about something. But he was an exceptional writer and reporter, and added to the tennis landscape a great deal. He will be sorely missed.

I’m sorry for your loss-and tennis’s loss. This was a beautiful tribute to your friend and colleague.

I’m very sorry to hear this Ben. 55 is far too young. Thank you for the beautiful tribute. RIP Howard.
