Bublik, Bursting
An interview with Alexander Bublik, in which he had strong feelings to share about doubles and more.
NEW YORK — Despite having a career year and coming to New York on an eight-match winning streak, I wasn’t sure Alexander Bublik would win any matches at this U.S. Open, given his previous 4-7 in New York. But Bublik has rolled through two rounds, and will play on Arthur Ashe Stadium for the first time in a Saturday night session for his third round match against American Tommy Paul.
After his second round match, I somewhat fluked into a one-on-one interview with Bublik, and was struck by his strong feelings on a few topics that I thought would be worth sharing with Bounces readers, including his take on the tension between singles and doubles players, which left tour officials within earshot of our interview looking stunned.
Our interview is beyond the paywall below for subscribers, as well as previews at matches to watch on Saturday at the U.S. Open.
